Cindy Lo, president/owner of Red Velvet Events in Austin, Texas, knows the importance of holding special events, the value they offer attendees and how to be creative on a limited budget. Because of this, Lo has received numerous awards for her productions, including a 2008 Esprit award from the International Special Event Society (ISES) and a 2008 Texas Star award from the Dallas Chapter of ISES.

Staying on target with these objectives is crucial because special events are often scrutinized as being excessively extravagant or can be viewed as having a limited purpose beyond entertainment. Yet, Lo noted that even her award-winning events were not necessarily extravagant or "picture worthy." But, she said, they met their objectives.
