We’ve survived another year of SXSW. Another year of people from across the world experiencing the best our city has to offer. Another year of boundary-pushing events, status quo-challenging programs, and technology-advancing activations. We put together a list of some of our favorite things we saw this year. Limiting it to six was difficult!

XPRIZE AT SPEAKEASY

Okay, so we’re a little biased with this one, but it’d still top our list if we weren’t involved! Speakeasy underwent a transformation for the Avatar Launch Party. Full of futuristic activations, and a stellar light tunnel, this party was out of this world.

READY PLAYER ONE AT BRAZOS HALL

The full building wrap, the RVs on the roof, and the permitted parking spots for line control. We loved it all. Brazos Hall was almost unrecognizable after Ready Player One was set up, boasting perhaps the most impressive transformation of SXSW 2018.

LAND O’ LAKES AT TRINITY HALL

Another striking building wrap, but this time at Trinity Hall. Land O’ Lakes hosted a program that inspired conversations surrounding agriculture, farming, and world hunger. A wall full of telephones allowed SXSW goers to listen to farmer stories from all over the world, while donating a meal for each minute listened.

THE UNDER ARMOUR DOME

Some of our favorite SXSW activations are those built from the ground up in non-traditional spaces, and this year, Under Armour impressed! The build out of the dome for Under Armour was a remarkable step-by-step process. We watched as it went from metal beams to a fully accessible bright red dome in what is normally a parking lot. So cool!

GATORADE AT MELLOW JOHNNY’S BIKE SHOP

Upon walking into the Gatorade pop-up, you’re under the impression that it’s just a Gatorade store. Guests walked around with iPads, attempting to find products that fit into various categories. After accomplishing that task, the wow moment: a refrigerator door opens into a full Gatorade technology speakeasy! We loved the juxtaposition of this pop-up and speakeasy; it was executed flawlessly.

KINDNESSPALOOZA AT RIO

You may have seen our previous post promoting The Kindness Campaign’s KINDNESSPALOOZA at SXSW; and if you did, maybe we saw you there! The Kindness Campaign (TKC) brought artists, musicians, local businesses, and community members together to showcase just what happens when you cultivate positivity. There was an adult seesaw for the playful SXSW goers, and a coloring wall for children and the young at heart alike. The Mrs were there, too, to further spread kindness. The warmth and positivity at this SXSW was vibrant. Days later, we’re still feeling kindness in our bones.

While these six transformations were some of our favorites, we left SXSW 2018 feeling endlessly inspired by all of the events we attended. What were your SXSW takeaways?
